Our featured Car Of The Month is a beautiful 1969 Plymouth Roadrunner owned by Wayne C. from Bowie, MD. Wayne and his family were always Big NASCAR and Mopar fans, and it is not surprising that the King, Richard Petty, was their favorite racer. Growing up, Wayne had quite a few rare Mopars. In the mid 80s he jumped to the Chevy Team and built a beautiful 1967 Chevelle with a 454 Big Block. The car was a thing of beauty and every part of the engine was chromed or braided in stainless steel.

 

Like most of us, we grow up and sell our cars to raise our family. Wayne drove his share of Hondas and other imports while establishing himself in the working world and watching his children grow up. In 2001 he returned to his passion for Mopars and purchased his 69 Roadrunner. Just like the old times, he wasted no time in having it painted and fitted with a new engine and transmission. Wayne took his time detailing the rest of his car for the upcoming cruise nights and car shows that he now attends regularly.

 

Speaking of his new engine – a 1973 steel block 400 C.I. "B" block was stroked to 512 C.I. making 525 horsepower and a whopping 642 pounds of torque. The engine was fitted with an Eagle crankshaft and rods, aluminum heads, Edelbrock Performer intake, and a Quick Fuel SS 830 carburetor. MSD takes care of the ignition with a Pro Billet distributor and a 6-AL controller. The engine has 10.5 to 1 compression and he runs it on a mixture of 112 octane and pump gas. 

 

Future plans for the Roadrunner include 4 wheel disc brakes, a new exhaust system, and some changes to the interior. We salute Wayne for staying close to his family Mopar roots and building a magnificent Roadrunner that the next generation of gearheads could enjoy.
